Copenhagen is one of those cities that photographs well in almost every season. The architecture gives you something interesting in every direction, the streets are walkable, and the light, particularly in the early morning or late evening, does a lot of the heavy lifting. If you're visiting and thinking about booking a photoshoot, here's what's worth knowing before you do.

Tips for a Successful Copenhagen Photoshoot

Timing matters more than anything else

Early mornings and late evenings are where the magic is. The light is softer, the shadows are longer, and most importantly, the streets are quiet. Copenhagen's most iconic spots, like Nyhavn or Magstræde, can get busy during the day. A 6am start or a golden hour session changes that completely.

Think about what you're wearing before the day

Neutral tones and soft colours tend to photograph well against Copenhagen's warm terracotta buildings and canal backdrops. Avoid anything with large logos or very busy patterns. If you want to coordinate with your partner, you don't need to match exactly, just stay in the same colour family.

Have a clear idea of what you want

If you love open green spaces and a relaxed, natural feel, that's great. If you want the colourful houses and the cobblestones, we go in a different direction. Either works, but it helps to talk this through before we meet. A photoshoot in the Royal Library Garden feels very different from one on at Superkilen, and knowing your preference means the final photos will actually look the way you imagined.

Kelly and Eoghan got in touch ahead of a babymoon trip to Copenhagen. Their little girl was due in October or November, so this late summer session was a chance to capture the two of them before everything changed in the best possible way.

We had around 45 minutes together on a Saturday late afternoon, and the city was surprisingly quiet for a weekend. We started at the Royal Library Garden, walked through to Christiansborg Palace, crossed the Marble Bridge, and finished up at Magstræde, one of Copenhagen's oldest and most charming streets.

The couple were completely relaxed throughout. Genuinely, you'd think they'd done this before. No awkwardness or stiff posing, just two people enjoying the city together while I followed along.

Kelly & Eoghan's Copenhagen Couple Session

After their session in Copenhagen, Kelly shared this:

"We had a wonderful maternity shoot with Ieva in Copenhagen. She was able to take inspiration from my moodboard and capture stunning photos of myself and my husband. I am so thankful for these beautiful photos that capture the memory of our babymoon trip before welcoming our little girl into our family. If you are travelling to Copenhagen for a wedding, honeymoon, babymoon or family vacation, I highly recommend booking a shoot with Ieva."
