Why Choose Frederiksborg Castle for Your Engagement?

If you’re dreaming of a fairytale engagement Frederiksborg Castle could be at the top of your list. Just 1h away from Copenhagen by train, this breathtaking Renaissance castle feels like something straight out of a storybook. And the best part? Unlike the much smaller (and often crowded) Frederiksberg Gardens in Copenhagen, Frederiksborg Castle offers plenty of space to find your own secluded, romantic spot to pop the question.

Built in the early 1600s by King Christian IV, Frederiksborg is the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia—so yeah, it’s got history. Between the manicured Baroque gardens, the serene lake, and the grand castle itself, it’s impossible not to get swept up in the romance of it all. The gardens, in particular, feel like they belong in the French countryside, adding an extra touch of elegance to your big moment.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind:

    • Travel Time: While it’s close to Copenhagen, you’ll need to set aside about 2 hours for the round trip. Totally worth it, but something to consider!

    • Construction in 2024 / 2025: Parts of the castle’s façade are currently under renovation, so you might see some scaffolding instead of the full majestic view.

    • Dining Options: If you’re hoping for a fancy meal after she (or he!) says yes, there aren’t many great restaurants nearby—so you might want to plan your celebration back in Copenhagen.

    Frederiksborg Castle Proposal

Anuj knew exactly what he wanted when he reached out—he had his heart set on proposing at Frederiksborg, just outside Copenhagen. I was totally on board! Yes, it takes a little time to get there on a public transport on a weekend, but it’s such a peaceful and beautiful spot, perfect for a proposal.

It was a sunny Sunday evening, and when I saw Nasstasja, she looked absolutely stunning—almost like she was already dressed for a wedding. The area was fairly quiet, with just a few tourists passing by, which made the moment even more special.

When Anuj got down on one knee, her reaction was pure joy. After the big “yes,” we walked around the gardens, taking photos from different angles, including some with the castle in the background.

Anuj opted for a one-hour session, and below are some highlights from this beautiful engagement.
