Why Choose Nyhavn for a Proposal?
As a proposal photographer in Copenhagen, I’ll be honest—Nyhavn is not always my top recommendation for proposals. The area can get extremely busy during the day, with tourists filling the streets and restaurants opening for business. However, for early risers, it offers a unique charm that’s hard to beat. Proposing in the quiet of a Sunday morning, before the city fully wakes up, can transform this bustling location into an intimate and magical space.
Nyhavn is perfect for couples who love bold colours, old-world architecture, and a bit of public attention. However, it’s worth noting that early mornings, while peaceful, can sometimes come with leftover trash from the night before (a little less romantic, but part of its character!).

M + C traveled all the way from the U.S. to soak in Copenhagen’s charm, and for their big moment, they chose the colorful heart of the city: Nyhavn. The proposal happened early on a Sunday morning when the harbor was just starting to wake up. The soft morning light reflected off the water and those iconic, candy-colored buildings—it honestly couldn’t have been more perfect.
What made this moment so special was their focus on keeping it simple and meaningful. They just wanted to hold on to the proposal itself—no extras, no distractions, just that one perfect memory. After capturing the “yes” and a few joyful moments, I stepped back and left them to enjoy their first morning as fiancés on their own terms.
