5 Places To Propose In Denmark | The Ultimate Copenhagen Proposal Guide

    Royal Library Garden (Kongelige Bibliotekshave)

This is a classic choice for spring, summer, and early autumn proposals. I love proposals at this time of year in the scenic garden because of the lush greenery.

πŸ“… BEST SEASON: Spring, Summer & Early Autumn

⏰ RECOMMENDED TIMING: Early morning (before 9:30am)

    πŸ“Έ Example Gallery

My top choice is early morning when the city is just waking up. If you time this with the fountain being turned on at around 9:30am, it becomes even more magical. I've captured some of my favorite reactions at this exact momentβ€”the sound of water adds something special.

The central location makes it easy to incorporate into your day naturally. A morning walk with coffee feels unforced rather than overly staged.

    Frederiksberg Gardens (Frederiksberg Have)

I feel this area is overlooked by many non-locals planning to propose, but I love itβ€”especially as a choice for winter proposals. With morning frost or during autumn with golden leaves, it couldn't be a more romantic choice (my humble opinion).

πŸ“… BEST SEASON: Winter & Autumn

    ⏰ RECOMMENDED TIMING: Morning

    πŸ“Έ Example Gallery

I love the area of the Japanese temple and also the little waterfall tucked in the garden where you can have a seat before popping the question. The gentle water sound adds something special, and the spot feels naturally private.

    Opera House Garden (Operaen)

This is just my personal preference, but a summer proposal in this area with the sun setting over Marmorkirken (Marble Church)β€”my favorite. Maybe I also have strong attachments to this Holmen area, but I love this.

    πŸ“… BEST SEASON: Summer

⏰ RECOMMENDED TIMING: Evening, during sunset

The waterfront setting provides beautiful natural light that becomes particularly spectacular during golden hour. You can also enjoy a sip of a beverage at the nearby Væksthuset restaurant afterwards.

    Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

I LOVE this museum, and what's a better way to propose if you're both modern art and nature lovers?

    πŸ“… BEST SEASON: Year-round

    ⏰ RECOMMENDED TIMING: After 7pm

    πŸ“Έ Example Gallery

One of the best things is that the museum is open until lateβ€”some days as late as 10pm. You can time your proposal with a lovely sunset in the sculpture park, or pop the question in the dark installation room (however, expect less privacy).

I love the journey to the museum itselfβ€”the coastal train ride is part of the experience. For the most impact, I would avoid rush hours (based on season) and most likely consider the moment after 7pm.

Getting there: Regional rain from Copenhagen Central Station to Humlebæk, then a 12-minute walk.
Money-saving tip: Purchase your ticket via the DSB app to save a few percent off admission.

    Jægersborg Dyrehave

This one is dedicated to nature lovers and requires traveling a little outside Copenhagenβ€”a quick train ride, getting off at Klampenborg station.

πŸ“… BEST SEASON: Spring through Autumn

⏰ RECOMMENDED TIMING: Morning or late afternoon

The park is a massive area and you can spot deer as well. There's no specific spot I would recommendβ€”whenever you feel it's THE TIME. The Hermitage Palace might be a nice overlook place.

You can also head to Bellevue Beach afterwards (the beach is crowded on warm summer evenings, no matter the time of week) or Bakken amusement park (be aware of seasonal closures). Please note that amusement parks in Denmark are different from ones you have in the States.

Getting there: Train to Klampenborg station (20 minutes from Copenhagen).

Whichever location you choose, these five spots require minimal planning while providing beautiful settings for your moment. Each has proven itself through the proposals I've photographed in 2025! Wishing you all the best as you plan your special day!
