Wedding Proposal in Frederiksberg Gardens (Frederiksberg Have)
When John reached out about planning a wedding proposal in Copenhagen, he had one clear mission: surprise his long-term girlfriend A with something special. John was refreshingly open to ideas based on A's personality—she loves nature, values privacy, and isn't drawn to crowded landmarks. This led us straight to Frederiksberg Gardens, a hidden gem that's absolutely beloved by locals.
As someone who's photographed 50+ proposals across Copenhagen, I'll be honest: this location doesn't get the same love from couples because it's not super central. But that's exactly what makes it perfect for wedding proposal planning. In these baroque-style gardens (designed in the 1700s), you'll find rich green tones, serene ponds reflecting the sky, a fairytale castle backdrop, romantic tree-lined alleys, and distinctive orange buildings creating warm contrast around the perimeter. You can always hop on the metro afterward if landmarks like Nyhavn are important to your celebration.
Good to Know: Frederiksberg Gardens hosts the annual Stella Polaris music festival each June, transforming this romantic oasis into Copenhagen's premier outdoor concert venue—but don't worry, the rest of the year it's perfectly peaceful for proposals!
We deliberately planned this wedding proposal photography session for evening, approaching sunset, after their dinner at one of central Copenhagen's restaurants. I arrived early and positioned myself at our agreed spot—these gardens can be a bit tricky to navigate without someone already there to guide you to the perfect location.
When I spotted the couple approaching along the tree-lined path, everything fell into place. It was such a joy to secretly capture the moment when John got down on one knee. A didn't expect it at all—her genuine surprise was absolutely beautiful to witness through my lens. That engagement ring with the emerald stone was stunning, and I could see her eyes watering. After the tears of joy, we continued exploring Frederiksberg Gardens until the sun set.
