Wedding in Odense Town Hall
Some weddings stay with you longer than others. Rebeca and Denis's wedding in Odense Town Hall is one I don't think I'll ever shake — and believe me, I hold onto all of them. I take extra care with every couple I photograph, but there's something about this one. Maybe it was leaving Copenhagen under the most impossibly pink morning sky. Maybe it was the brutal wind that greeted us the moment we stepped off the train in Odense. Or maybe it was just the two of them.
Rebeca, originally from Brazil, and Denis, originally from Denmark, had one of the first ceremony slots of the morning, and Odense was still half-asleep. The streets were quiet — possibly the cold had something to do with it, too — and that stillness made everything feel a little more sacred. That's one of the quiet advantages of an early Odense Town Hall wedding: the city hasn't woken up yet, and for a short while, it genuinely feels like it belongs to just you.
Good to Know: Odense Town Hall holds weddings on most days of the week (excl. Sundays and public holidays), which makes it incredibly flexible for couples hoping for a lot of choice in terms of timing. The ceremony room itself has a lovely, understated character — white walls, blue carpets, wooden ceilings, and a mural painted on the wall in front of the registrar's desk.
The Odense Winter Photo Walk
After the ceremony, we followed what I now think of as my go-to Odense winter photo walk. It's a route I've refined over time, especially for this season, and it works beautifully for near-winter light.
First stop was Sankt Knuds Kirke, partly for the gorgeous Gothic interior, and partly, I'll be honest, to warm up. The cathedral is one of the most dramatic indoor spaces in the whole city, and on a cold grey morning it has this particular hush that makes for really intimate photographs. Well worth stepping inside even if you're not a cathedral person.
From there we headed to Klokkedybet and through Eventyrhaven (The Fairytale Garden), following the canal path, which at the time was frozen and even more eye-catching. The bare branches, the soft light, the empty pathways. It's Odense at its most itself.
Then the colourful streets near the old H.C. Andersen House and a quick stop at the new one too. This part of the city is the most photogenic stretch in Odense in my opinion: all those candy-coloured facades clustered together in a way that feels almost theatrical.
We finished at Nelle's at the Odense Teater for a morning coffee, and I have to tell you — I adore this café. The colours, the light, the generous open space. It makes for some of the most naturally beautiful and authentic Odense wedding photos and also a good way to finish wedding photo story.
Cheers to you both and to everything that comes next.
