Denmark Castle Wedding
Denmark castle wedding celebrations offer couples the chance to marry in some of the country’s most beautiful historic settings, and for Viviene and Peter, their private ceremony took place at Kronborg Castle in Helsingør. Peter travelled from the UK and Viviene from Brazil, bringing their two stories together for an intimate wedding day in Denmark.
They chose to elope at Kronborg Slot in late July, with their wedding arranged with the help of Marry Abroad Simply, a wedding agency that welcomes international couples looking to get married in Denmark. For Viviene and Peter, a private wedding at Kronborg felt like the perfect way to celebrate their marriage, surrounded by history, the sea and the beautiful setting of Helsingør.
Kronborg Castle is closely associated with Shakespeare’s Hamlet and stands by the Øresund with views towards Sweden. It is a wonderful place for a wedding, particularly for couples travelling to Denmark from abroad and looking for a setting that feels distinctly Danish.
A private Kronborg Slot wedding ceremony
I met Viviene and Peter, together with their official witnesses, outside the main entrance to Kronborg Castle. When their wedding time arrived, we all entered the castle together and made our way inside for the ceremony.
The officiant was already waiting for them and welcomed the couple with champagne and water before the ceremony began. The wedding room was simple and understated, with the calm Danish style that suited their intimate celebration perfectly. Through the windows, we could see the sea and watch ships passing by, adding another reminder of the beautiful setting they had chosen for their wedding day.
The ceremony itself was short and sweet, but there was plenty of emotion in those few minutes. Both Viviene and Peter became a little teary, which was such a lovely moment to capture. These are often the photographs I remember most from a wedding day, as they show the couple as they really were in that moment, taking in the fact that they had just become married.
Afterwards, we took some time to enjoy the castle and its surroundings. We photographed around the main Kronborg Slot and the Kronborg Castle Church before heading outside towards the sea. The different surroundings gave us plenty of variety for their wedding gallery, from the historic architecture to the open views across the water.
The sea is one of my favourite parts of photographing at Kronborg. After the ceremony, it gave Viviene and Peter the chance to slow down and enjoy some time together while we took more relaxed portraits with the water and horizon in the background.
We finished with a few photographs of the couple with Kronborg Castle behind them, followed by portraits on the steps with the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark in the background. It was a lovely way to end our time together, bringing the castle, the sea and the maritime character of Helsingør into their wedding photographs.
