Wedding Near Kronborg Castle
Dasha and Igor travelled all the way from Poland to get married in Helsingør, Denmark and they had one clear wish: Kronborg Slot had to be part of their day. The ceremony itself took place at Helsingør Town Hall, quiet and intimate as town hall weddings tend to be, but the afternoon photo walk was built entirely around the castle. Cold air, bright sun, and that enormous Renaissance fortress almost entirely to themselves.
Late autumn in Helsingør is something I'd recommend without hesitation. The colours are extraordinary — all those warm golds and rusted oranges along the approach to Kronborg — and the tourist crowds have almost entirely gone. When we arrived at the castle grounds that day, it was just us. And what a place to have to yourself.
Good to Know: Kronborg Castle (in Danish Kronborg Slot) sits in Helsingør, about 45 minutes by train from Copenhagen Central Station. Civil ceremonies take place at Helsingør Town Hall, which is a short distance from the castle. The two work really well together as a combined wedding day — ceremony in town, then a relaxed photo walk down to the waterfront and castle grounds.
A Wedding Day Walk Around Kronborg
The ceremony at Helsingør Town Hall was brief and warm. Dasha and Igor had kept the day small and intentional — no fuss, no unnecessary additions and no guests.
After the ceremony, we made our way towards Kronborg. The afternoon light at that time of year is low and golden, which does something really lovely to those stone walls and the wide open space around the castle. The moat area, the cannons lined up along the ramparts, the view out to Sweden across the Øresund — it's all there, and in late autumn you get it almost entirely to yourself.
We spent a good chunk of time just wandering, finding moments. Dasha and Igor were relaxed and happy and completely at ease with each other, which always makes the job easier and the photos better. There were so many nice candid moments in between the more composed shots — the kind you only get when a couple is genuinely enjoying themselves rather than performing for the camera.
The cold was real, I won't pretend otherwise. But that kind of crisp autumn day photographs beautifully, and neither of them seemed to mind it.
