Family Photoshoot at the Royal library Garden
There are families you meet once, and then there are families you look forward to seeing every year. Photographing Theresa, Steven and their little ones has become one of those traditions I genuinely enjoy. Watching the children grow and seeing how their personalities change from one summer to the next is one of the best parts of my work. See their first family session 6 years ago here.
This year we met at the Royal Library Garden, one of my favourite places for family photoshoots in Copenhagen. It offers plenty of greenery, beautiful architecture and quiet corners, making it a wonderful location for families who want natural photos without the crowds.
It was a gloomy July morning, with a little drizzle in the air and the city still fast asleep. While many people hope for sunshine, cloudy mornings are actually some of my favourite conditions for family photography. The soft light is flattering, the garden is peaceful, and the light rain only added to the relaxed atmosphere and candid moments.
We always begin with a few classic family portraits while everyone is still full of energy. Once those are safely captured, the session naturally becomes more playful. The children were free to run around, explore the garden, cuddle with their parents and simply enjoy the morning together.
Of course, there was one very important ingredient to keep the little ones entertained: a small candy bribe. A few sweets here and there helped keep everyone’s attention and added plenty of smiles along the way. Parents know that sometimes the simplest tricks work best :)
Before finishing, we took a short walk towards the harbour by the Black Diamond Library to capture a few final moments by the water. After about 45 minutes together, the family continued their relaxed Sunday morning with the rest of their plans, while I headed home knowing we had created another collection of memories to add to the growing story of their family.
