Top 10 Photo Spots for Your Copenhagen Photoshoot
Magstraede
Nestled in the heart of Copenhagen, Magstræde is one of the most popular photoshoot spots in the city—and for good reason. This charming cobblestone street is lined with vibrant townhouses and feels like stepping back in time. It's just a short walk from City Hall, making it perfect for post-ceremony photos.
Despite being a well-known Copenhagen photo spot, Magstræde still has that old-world charm with its original cobblestones and colourful facades. It's incredibly romantic and photogenic, especially if you love that classic Copenhagen vibe.
Top tip: To get the street without parked cars in your shots, visit outside weekday working hours—early mornings or weekends work best.

Nytorv
Nytorv is a lovely photoshoot location close to Københavns Byret, Copenhagen's courthouse. The Neoclassical courthouse building features dramatic Roman-style pillars that make for striking wedding photos—it's got that grand, elegant feel without being too formal.
Just steps away, you'll find a beautifully engraved archway and fountain on Strøget, Copenhagen's famous shopping street. While it's usually packed with shoppers, what most people don't realise is that Strøget is actually a gorgeous photo spot, especially early in the morning before the crowds arrive.
Nytorv is also just moments from Magstræde, making it easy to visit both locations in one go. It's a bit less known than other Copenhagen photoshoot spots, which means you might have it more to yourselves.

Nyhavn
Nyhavn, perhaps the most iconic area of Copenhagen, is a picture-perfect destination for a reason. This historic canal, lined with vibrant yachts and a kaleidoscope of cozy cafes and bars, exudes an undeniable charm that's simply irresistible.
Why not choose a cafe to enjoy a favourite glass of wine or a coffee, while having unique wedding portraits taken? Nyhavn would definitely suit a small wedding - it’d be difficult to assemble a large congregation here. Captivating at any time of day!
Nyhavn is a short stroll from Amalienborg, home to the Danish royals and Ofelia Plads, a cultural square that juts out over the harbour.
Top tip: For those seeking to avoid the crowds, consider visiting Nyhavn in the early morning to watch the sunrrise or after the sunset when the city lights illuminate the night, casting a spellbinding glow over the canals.

Marble Bridge / Christiansborg Palace
Bold architecture, a lovely courtyard, and steeped in history—Christiansborg Palace is one of the most stunning photo places in Copenhagen. As the former residence of Danish royals, it offers that regal, timeless elegance that photographs beautifully. The palace is surrounded by tranquil canals that feel like traditional moats, adding to that fairytale atmosphere.
The elegant pillars and archways look incredible in natural light, making it perfect for those classic, regal-worthy wedding shots. If you want a panoramic city view, you can venture up to the Tower of the Palace—especially beautiful during golden hour when the light is particularly dramatic.
That said, for the best photoshoot experience, I recommend staying at ground level. The palace courtyard and surrounding areas offer so much grandeur and historical charm that you'll get the most variety and impact down below.

Tivoli
One of the most Instagrammable locations in Copenhagen is Tivoli Gardens, the nostalgic Danish theme park. Tivoli was beloved by Hans Christian Andersen and it inspired Walt Disney. The park is ideal for fun, colourful photos that celebrate your very own fairytale!
At night, Tivoli has a carnival atmosphere and is illuminated with thousands of twinkling lights. The park evolves throughout the year - revel in long summer nights or experience the festive ‘hyggelist’ atmosphere at Christmas.
Be sure to check Tivoli is open on your chosen date - occasionally there are set up days when the park is closed.

Copenhagen Botanical Garden
Nature lovers will adore photoshoot in the Botanical Garden, which is part of the University of Copenhagen. It’s truly an oasis of calm in the heart of the city. The garden’s serene atmosphere will help you feel at ease and enjoy the moment – newlyweds can take some elegant shots surrounded by lush foliage.
Among its many picturesque features, couples can pose under a romantic archway adorned with verdant greenery or ascend the striking Juliet-style white staircase within the Palm House. However, it's important to note that commercial photography is not allowed inside the Palm House without a permit. Therefore, I highly recommend taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings outside the Botanical Garden for your photoshoot.

King’s Garden / Rosenborg Slot
King's Garden is a classic Copenhagen photoshoot spot that truly comes alive during the warmer months. The lush grass is dotted with people enjoying the sunshine, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Personally, I'm drawn to the charming rose arches and the picturesque tree-lined walkways that add to the park's allure.
If you're drawn to historic settings in your photographs, check out Rosenborg Slot, situated adjacent to King's Garden. This magnificent 17th-century castle boasts distinctive turquoise-topped turrets and embodies the essence of Dutch Renaissance architecture. Surrounded by the lush beauty of King's Garden, it provides a regal backdrop for your photoshoot. Inside the castle, visitors are treated to a glimpse of the Danish royal family's opulent finery and dazzling interiors, making it a truly majestic destination.

Ørstedsparken
Ørstedsparken, named after the Danish physicist Hans Christian Ørsted, is a wonderful option for newlyweds seeking standout wedding photos. Its serene atmosphere and picturesque features make it an ideal setting for capturing romantic moments. With a charming walkway crossing the lake, it's perfect for a bohemian-style shoot surrounded by nature. Personally, I find the park especially beautiful in autumn, when warm brown tones dominate the landscape. The bridge in the park's center serves as a great spot for wedding photos. Many couples also choose Ørstedsparken for their first-look images, as its proximity to City Hall provides convenience and privacy amidst the city's hustle and bustle.

Copenhagen City Hall & Copenhagen City Hall Garden
Last but not least, City Hall is not only a classic place to say “I Do” in Copenhagen - it has countless spots to take pre and post-ceremony wedding portraits.
Inside City Hall, you can explore three floors of grandeur and find your own favourite spots for photos. Personally, I'm drawn to the third floor, with its charming decor that adds an extra touch of romance to every shot.
And if you're in Copenhagen during the summer, don't miss the City Hall Garden. With its beautiful fountain and vibrant flowers in full bloom from late May to early July. It's indeed a dreamy backdrop for your wedding portraits!

Copenhagen has so many options for a beautiful photoshoot—whether you're planning wedding photos, couple portraits, or even solo shots. You're honestly spoilt for choice.
