King’s Garden Elopement

Summer in Copenhagen is a lovely time for an intimate wedding, and for this young American-British couple, King’s Garden provided the setting for their special day. Their elopement in King’s Garden included a short private ceremony, personal vows and a relaxed photo walk around one of Copenhagen’s most iconic gardens.

The couple had originally hoped to have a free wedding ceremony, but with very limited spots available, they decided to arrange a private ceremony instead. This also meant securing two additional witnesses to be there with them and make the ceremony official.

Their ceremony was short and personal, taking place in a small garden area within King’s Garden. The couple also exchanged their vows, adding a lovely personal touch to the ceremony before officially becoming husband and wife.

Once the ceremony was over, we took some time for a small photo walk around King’s Garden. It was a nice chance to slow down, take some portraits and capture a few photos of the two of them together on their wedding day.

Molly also brought along the cutest detail for their photos: a custom embroidered jacket with “Mrs Aurora” written on the back. I absolutely loved this little addition! It was personal, fun and such a lovely way to mark the beginning of her new chapter as Mrs Aurora.

After our photo walk, I left the newlyweds to enjoy the rest of their wedding day together.

My honest opinion about a King’s Garden elopements

I want to be honest about something when it comes to getting married here. King’s Garden is a lovely place to visit and one of my favourite areas for a walk in Copenhagen, but I would think carefully about using it as the only location for your wedding photos, especially on a sunny summer day.

The garden can become very busy, and finding quiet spots without other people around can be difficult. This is particularly true during the warmer months when both visitors and locals come to enjoy the park.

If you are planning a King’s Garden elopement and would like a larger collection of wedding photos, I usually suggest making the garden part of a longer photo walk around Copenhagen. We can take some photos around the ceremony location and enjoy the surroundings, then continue towards some of the city’s other iconic spots.

This is simply my two cents as a photographer who has photographed multiple weddings in this area. King’s Garden has a lovely wedding atmosphere and is a beautiful place to get married, but when it comes to photos, I would personally suggest combining it with a few other locations around Copenhagen.

I would also keep in mind that the photos you see online may not always show the full picture. Photographers choose their angles carefully, and images can be highly edited, so a location that looks completely empty in a wedding gallery may be much busier in real life.

With all that said, I really enjoyed photographing this couple’s day. Their short private ceremony, the vows they exchanged and Molly’s adorable “Mrs Aurora” jacket made their wedding feel personal and full of lovely little details.
