Private Wedding Ceremony in King’s Garden (Kongens Have)

Sophie and Christian's private wedding ceremony in Copenhagen took place in Kings Garden (Kongens Have), one of Copenhagen's most central parks. They'd scheduled their ceremony for midday on a Friday — smart timing, as the garden gets packed with locals and tourists later in the day, particularly when the weather's decent. Sophie arrived with her father, walking towards Christian and their small group of family members who had all travelled from Germany for this moment. The ceremony itself was concise — about ten minutes of essential vows and the legal formalities they needed. After signing the papers, they shared champagne with their families, then we headed off to explore the garden for photos.

We spent the next hour and a half wandering through King’s Garden together. What I loved about Sophie and Christian was how genuinely relaxed they were — no stress about schedules or logistics, simply enjoying being newly married. We moved from the formal garden sections with their manicured lawns to quieter tree-lined paths, making the most of both the June weather and the garden's diverse settings.

The morning wrapped up with a very “Copenhagen moment”, the couple hopping onto a bike carrier for their ride to lunch, which felt like the right end to their intimate ceremony.

About Private Wedding Ceremonies in Copenhagen

If you're considering this route, here's what you should know about private ceremonies in Copenhagen:

Cost and logistics: Private ceremonies run 3,800-4,500 DKK (around $550-650 USD or €500-600 EUR) as of 2025. You'll need to organise your own witnesses — family or friends work perfectly.

Location: You can literally choose anywhere for your ceremony. I've photographed couples in courtyards, parks, and even private gardens. Kings Garden offers particular advantages with its central location and stunning natural backdrops.

Time: With regular ceremony bookings facing significant delays, private ceremonies offer much faster scheduling.
