An intimate wedding in Hässleholm, Sweden, from a short ceremony at Finja Church to a quiet afternoon of wedding portraits at Hovdala Castle.

Hässleholm Wedding
Violeta and Martin celebrated their intimate wedding in Hässleholm, Sweden, with around 25 of their closest family and friends. Violeta is Lithuanian and Martin is Swedish, and from the time we met, I felt there was something very easy and genuine about talking to them. It was one of those days where, as a photographer, I quickly stopped feeling like I was meeting a couple for the first time and started feeling like I was spending the day with people I already knew.
Their ceremony took place at Finja Church (Finja kyrka), just a few minutes by car from Hässleholm town centre. After the ceremony, we took group photographs with their guests before continuing to Hovdala Castle (Hovdala slott) for some time together and their wedding portraits. Their evening celebration continued in their garden.

The ceremony at Finja Church was short, even compared with what I am used to photographing in Denmark, so we soon found ourselves outside with their family and friends for the group photographs. With such a small wedding party, everything felt relaxed and easy. There was time to talk, laugh and spend a little time with the people who had come to celebrate with them.
Afterwards, we drove to Hovdala Castle for the couple’s photographs. It was a Saturday afternoon, yet the area was surprisingly quiet. We could take our time walking around the grounds and make use of the different settings without having to work around many other visitors.
We photographed both around the castle and inside the Hovdala Orangery (Hovdala orangeri), before taking some portraits in front of Hovdala Castle itself.
By this point, I had spent enough time with Violeta and Martin that the camera almost became secondary. We talked, walked around Hovdala and laughed along the way. For me, this is one of the nicest parts of photographing an intimate wedding in Hässleholm. When there is time to connect with the couple as people, the photography becomes much more relaxed too.
A Lithuanian-Swedish celebration at home
After the portraits at Hovdala, we returned to the house, where their celebration continued with their guests. Violeta and Martin received congratulations and gifts before everyone settled in for a self-catering dinner.
The meal included traditional Lithuanian sweets and drinks, bringing Violeta’s background into the celebration alongside Martin’s Swedish heritage. It was a small detail, but one that made the evening feel very personal to them.
By this stage, the formal parts of the day were over and everyone could simply enjoy being together. I really liked seeing this side of their wedding after spending the afternoon with them. There was no need for a long schedule or lots of planned activities. They had their family and friends around them, good food and drinks, and plenty of time to enjoy the evening.

I really enjoyed getting to know you both, spending the afternoon at Hovdala and photographing all those little moments along the way. Wishing you both all the best for the years ahead!
