Wedding in Tivoli, Copenhagen
Mai and Darius chose to keep their spring wedding in Copenhagen small and personal, with a civil ceremony at Copenhagen City Hall followed by an intimate Tivoli wedding reception with their closest family. As a Danish-Romanian couple, they were planning a larger celebration for later in the year, so this day was a chance to enjoy a quieter celebration with the people closest to them.
We planned around an hour and a half of photography, giving us enough time to follow their day from the ceremony at City Hall, through a few portraits and a toast in the garden, and finally to their reception in Tivoli.
Civil Ceremony & Toast in Copenhagen City Hall
When I arrived at Copenhagen City Hall, the building was surprisingly quiet. The main ground floor space had been reserved for another large celebration that day, but this did not stop us from finding beautiful places for Mai and Darius’s photographs.
After their ceremony, we headed into Copenhagen City Hall Garden, where we could slow down for a little while and enjoy the spring afternoon together.
And what a beautiful time of year to be there!
Mai and Darius shared a toast surrounded by flowers in full bloom. Mai’s flower crown, bouquet and elegant white dress fitted perfectly into the setting, while the garden gave us a peaceful place to take a few portraits and enjoy some time with their family.
If you are planning a spring wedding in Copenhagen, I always love the City Hall Garden around mid-May and early June. The flowers bring so much colour to the photographs, and it is a lovely place to spend a little time after the ceremony.
Wedding Photos and Reception in Tivoli
From Copenhagen City Hall, we made our way to Tivoli Gardens, which is only a short walk away. This is one of the things I love about having a wedding in Tivoli after a Copenhagen City Hall ceremony. You can move from the ceremony to your reception and portraits without spending much of your wedding day travelling between locations.
Mai and Darius wanted only a handful of portraits to remember their day, so we kept things simple. We photographed the two of them against the beautiful backdrop of Nimb Hotel before heading inside Tivoli to their reception at Grøften Restaurant.
There was time for a few playful photographs too, capturing the two of them enjoying the day before I left them to celebrate with their family.
I loved how relaxed their wedding day felt. There was no need to fill every minute with photographs. We had time for the important moments, a few portraits in the garden, a toast and then a lovely meal with the people they had chosen to have beside them.
For Mai and Darius, this Tivoli wedding was one small but very special part of a much bigger wedding celebration still to come.
