Rainy Day Wedding In Copenhagen: Ines & Tonny Story
Ines & Tonny started their Copenhagen wedding plans back in early 2023, gearing up for a summer celebration to remember. When they reached out to me, they were clear about one thing: they wanted their big day to feel like a timeless movie – you know, cinematic and elegant, with a laid-back vibe.
They had their hearts set on a full-day affair, starting from Ines's getting ready at the Phoenix Hotel and ending with a first dance at Brøndsalen, one of the most sought-after wedding venues in Copenhagen. The ceremony itself was to be nestled amidst the picturesque gardens of Haveselskabets Have.
After our first video chat in spring, I was buzzing with excitement to be part of their journey. It was clear from the get-go that this wasn't just any wedding – it was going to be a day filled with love, beauty, and a touch of movie magic.

Getting ready in Phoenix Hotel
Ines was getting ready for her wedding at the Phoenix Hotel in Copenhagen, just as she had originally planned. I arrived just before the talented makeup artist, Tina from Tina on The Daily, finished her work and left. As I saw Ines ready to step into the next chapter of her life, I felt the anticipation building up. It was my first time meeting Ines, and she looked absolutely stunning and filled with inspiration. I couldn't resist capturing her beauty in portraits, and I had a feeling this wedding would be both elegant and sophisticated.
Ines's sister helped with the final touches, and her dad made sure everything was in order for the ceremony at Haveselskabets Have. With just 20 minutes left until the scheduled start of the wedding ceremony, anticipation filled the air.
Open Air ceremony in Haveselskabets Have
After a 15-minute taxi ride from the Phoenix Hotel, we arrived at the open air ceremony venue – Haveselskabets Have. Though the sky was veiled in clouds, thankfully, the threat of rain seemed distant. What a stroke of luck! Everyone was already here and eagerly awaited Ines's arrival, escorted by her father.
As Ines and Tobby exchanged vows and rings during the brief official proceedings, accompanied by classical music, any lingering nervousness dissipated, replaced by a sense of calm. The couple had chosen to have their dream Copenhagen wedding officiated by a municipal officiant, adding a touch of personal significance to the ceremony.
With the formalities complete, we made our way to the nearby reception venue, Brøndsalen. The sight of a pyramid of champagne glasses greeted us, evoking a sense of wonder and delight from everyone present. It was a truly breathtaking moment that marked the beginning of a joyous celebration.
Admiring Wedding Decorations by Table Story
The wedding decorations for this Copenhagen wedding were exquisitely crafted by a local flrosit and table setting designer, the Table Story. Stepping into Brøndsalen felt like entering a lush green oasis, with each detail carefully curated to perfection. You can take a look at Table’s story beautiful craftings here.
Couple Photoshoot in Haveselskabets Have
After greeting their guests and taking a moment to appreciate the venue's beauty, we continued with the couple's portraits in Haveselskabets Have (Garden). This garden holds a special place in my heart for wedding portraits. Despite its intimate size, its Japanese-inspired elements create an ethereal ambiance, transporting you beyond Copenhagen. The lush foliage provides a serene backdrop for our photoshoots, and if you're fortunate, you might even catch a glimpse of a peacock gracefully roaming the grounds, adding a dash of unexpected charm.
As the sky grew darker, we knew that our photosession in Haveselskabets Have was limited. We opted to concentrate solely on capturing the bride and groom's portraits near the pond in the center. It was a race against time! Just 15 minutes into the session, the rain began to fall, prompting us to quickly rejoin the celebration at Brøndsalen. However, those 15 minutes proved to be more than enough to capture the essence of the couple's portraits.
Reception in Brøndsalen
The couple's reception in Brøndsalen embraced traditional Danish customs, including the playful antics of kissing atop chairs or beneath tables, heartfelt speeches, and the tender exchange of kisses when one partner had a “reason to leave the room”. It was a deeply emotional wedding, and I couldn't help but be moved by the couple's profound affection for each other and their guests. My, as a photographer’s job, finished with the first dance that night. Thank you, Ines & Toby, for inviting me! It was so much joy to celebrate with you!
