When Sana and Kaan began planning their wedding, they knew they wanted something intimate and relaxed. Living in Germany, they invited their closest family to Denmark and chose Odense City Hall as the place where they would officially become husband and wife.
It was a thoughtful decision rather than a last-minute one. Odense offered everything they were looking for: a beautiful historic city, a calm atmosphere, and plenty of lovely places to celebrate together after the ceremony.
From the moment we met that morning, the pace of the day matched the city itself. We wandered through quiet streets, stopped wherever the light looked beautiful, and enjoyed a wedding day that never felt hurried.
Getting Married at Copenhagen City Hall
What To Expect During An Odense City Hall Wedding?
⏱️ THE CEREMONY. The ceremony is very short, usually around three minutes (yep, counted :)), making it one of the quickest civil ceremonies in Denmark. Despite its length, it still feels warm and personal as you exchange your rings (or also possible vows).
📸 PHOTOS INSIDE THE CEREMONY ROOM. After the ceremony, you’re usually given a few extra minutes to stay inside the ceremony room for portraits before the next couple arrives. It’s enough time for a handful of photographs with each other and your guests.
🚶 EXPLORE ODENSE AFTERWARDS. One of the biggest advantages of an Odense City Hall wedding is that you don’t need any transport. The city centre is compact, making it easy to walk between some of Odense’s most photogenic locations. Whether you’d like colourful streets, quiet parks, or historic architecture, everything is only a few minutes away.
📷 HOW MUCH PHOTOGRAPHY COVERAGE DO YOU NEED? Many couples choose 1h photography, which is usually enough to capture the ceremony, family photos, and a short portrait walk around the city. If you’d like a slower pace and more variety in your gallery, I’d recommend 1.5 or 2 hours instead.
💡 DO YOU NEED TO STAY IN ODENSE? Not necessarily. Copenhagen and Odense are connected by direct trains that take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, making it perfectly possible to travel on the morning of your wedding if you’re already staying in Copenhagen.
Sana & Kaan’s Wedding in Odense City Hall
We met early in the morning at H.C. Andersen’s House, before it opened to visitors. The gardens were quiet, green, and almost empty, giving us the perfect setting to begin the day.
From there, we wandered through the colourful streets nearby, taking our time before heading to Odense City Hall, where their family was already waiting.
The ceremony itself was brief but cosy, and after exchanging their vows we stayed inside for a few quick portraits before making our way outside again.
Our final stop was King’s Garden, one of my favourite places for wedding photography in Odense. The gardens offer a lovely contrast to the city centre, with mature trees, open paths, and plenty of quiet corners for portraits.
By this point, Sana and Kaan had already been on the go for most of the morning, so we kept things relaxed. We finished with family photographs before leaving everyone to enjoy the rest of their wedding day together.
