Beyond Copenhagen City Hall, Frederiksberg City Hall is a popular choice for couples, both local and international, seeking the ideal wedding venue. Notably, shorter waiting queues for wedding approval and pictaresque location for wedding portraits, makes it a great alternative. And for ones who wants to experience the Copenhagen’s main landmarks, a quick metro ride of less than 10 minutes whisks you straight to Nyhavn. So , it’s still a “win-win” situation.
To find out what documents are needed for your wedding at Frederiksberg City Hall, take a look at the handy guide provided by Getting Married in Denmark. Here, my focus is on giving you a photographer's view of what it's really like to tie the knot at this venue.
So without further ado, let’s dive into it!
Starting in 2024, Frederiksberg City Hall will no longer be accommodating weekday wedding bookings for tourists. Instead, they've reserved one Saturday per month exclusively for tourist weddings, with exceptions for May and August Saturdays.
Getting Married in Frederiksberg City Hall vs Copenhagen City Hall
How different is Frederiksberg Town Hall wedding compared to Copenhagen’s City Hall? Well, for one, Frederiksberg ceremonies tend to be more formal and, as a result, quicker. You could be officially married in just 4 minutes! Officiants here steer clear of lengthy chit-chats and avoid injecting too much liveliness into their speeches. So, if you're in the market for a quick and to-the-point ceremony, Frederiksberg might be just what you're looking for. Not to say that ceremonies in the City Hall drag on, but this is just a general observation from attending quite a number of weddings.
Now, let's shine some light on the ambiance. The ceremony room at Frederiksberg Town Hall is notably bright, providing a welcoming atmosphere. This is excellent news if you're not a fan of camera flashes – your eyes are spared! In contrast, my experience, alongside many photographers (although very rarely for me!), reveals the challenge of capturing images without artificial lighting inside Copenhagen City Hall during winter time. The lighting there is a bit tricky, so it's often safer to opt for additional lighting equipment.
Location-wise Frederiksberg City Hall stands a bit away from the bustling heart of the city center. Consequently, it offers a less touristy environment, creating a more flexible and intimate setting for capturing those cherished wedding portraits. You're less likely to encounter another just-married couple striking their poses after the ceremony. It's a bit off the beaten path, ensuring that your portrait session remains uniquely yours without unintentional photo-bombing moments.
Frederiksberg City Hall Wedding Photos
It’s time to take a short glimpse into how Frederiksberg City Hall wedding looks like in photographs. The photo story features Luana + Erwin, an international couple from Ireland who chose to elope in Copenhagen during the early autumn. Following their heartfelt ceremony, we hopped on a short metro ride from Frederiksberg to Nørreport (M1/M2 line) to conclude our photoshoot amidst the breathtaking Botanical Gardens. Opting for a 2-hour elopement session, allowed us to capture the essence of their love and the beauty of our chosen surroundings.
