Beyond Copenhagen City Hall, Frederiksberg City Hall is a popular choice for couples, both local and international, seeking the ideal wedding venue. Notably, shorter waiting queues for wedding approval and pictaresque location for wedding portraits, makes it a great alternative. And for ones who wants to experience the Copenhagen’s main landmarks, a quick metro ride of less than 10 minutes whisks you straight to Nyhavn. So , it’s still a “win-win” situation.

To find out what documents are needed for your wedding at Frederiksberg City Hall, take a look at the handy guide provided by Getting Married in Denmark. Here, my focus is on giving you a photographer's view of what it's really like to tie the knot at this venue.

So without further ado, let’s dive into it!

In 2026, Frederiksberg City Hall acommodates weddings in English, German or Danish on Thursdays at 11am for foreigners. This expands the options for couples coming from abroad, which were limited in previous years. If one of you lives in Denmark, you can have your ceremony in English on other days too.

Getting Married in Frederiksberg City Hall vs Copenhagen City Hall

So, what’s the difference between getting married at Frederiksberg City Hall and Copenhagen City Hall?

First, ceremonies in Frederiksberg are usually more formal and shorter. You can be married in as little as 4 minutes. The officiants keep things simple and don’t add long speeches. If you want a quick and straightforward ceremony, Frederiksberg is a good choice. Ceremonies in Copenhagen aren’t long either, but they often feel more relaxed.

Now, let’s talk about the atmosphere. The ceremony room in Frederiksberg City Hall is bright and full of natural light. This makes it comfortable for you and great for photos without using flash. In Copenhagen City Hall, the lighting can be darker, especially in winter, so photographers sometimes need extra lighting.

The location is also different. Frederiksberg City Hall is away from the busy city center. It’s quieter and less crowded, which makes it easier to take wedding photos without other couples around. You’re less likely to run into crowds, so your photo session feels more private and relaxed.

    Frederiksberg City Hall Wedding Photos

Here’s a short look at how a Frederiksberg City Hall wedding can look in photos.

This photo story features Luana and Erwin, an international couple from Ireland who chose to elope in Copenhagen in early autumn. After their intimate ceremony, we took a short metro ride from Frederiksberg to Nørreport (M1/M2 line) and continued the photoshoot in the beautiful Botanical Gardens.

They chose a 2-hour elopement session, which gave us enough time to capture both their connection and the atmosphere of the surroundings.
