Wedding Make-up in Copenhagen: An interview with MUA Anastasiia
As a Copenhagen wedding photographer, I’m more often than not getting asked for hair & makeup recommendations: who is good at working with specific skin types, who is mobile and able to arrive at the hotel / airbnb, who doesn’t cost a fortune yet is professional? With all the makeup artists out there, it might be hard to narrow your choices down. Maybe even to the extent that you decide to do it all yourself .. :) Either you’re thinking of having a professional or DIY’ing, to help you out, I invited a Copenhagen-based make up artist Anastasiia from makeupbeautycph to spill all the deets about wedding makeup. Our chat with FAQ and must-know tips and tricks is below. Enjoy!

Professional Hair & Makeup in Copenhagen
Anastasiia, could you briefly introduce yourself?
Yes, absolutely! I’ve been working as a makeup artist for 4 years and more than 1 year in Copenhagen. Everything about beauty has been my passion since high school. I watched many different videos on YouTube and tried to reproduce them :)
Now I'm thrilled to be a professional makeup artist and hair stylist and primarily work in the wedding industry. I love to travel across Sjælland (Zealand), meet new people every time, and be a part of this happiness. Usually, I take my inspiration from Pinterest, I love this platform, also on Instagram or YouTube.
What trends do you see for wedding makeup & hair?
As I see now more and more brides want to look as much more natural at the wedding. I think this is wonderful because it's a high trend now. Very natural makeup, just to highlight the features, a simple hairstyle is either loose down or updo. This especially applies to the Nordic countries. The rule for Nordic wedding makeup is the more natural I look, the better :)
Earth tones for the makeup, soft waves, or a kind of messy updo.
What are some of the wedding makeup “mistakes” you noticed throughout your career?
It's always better to have a trial or if you are going to do makeup by yourself, I recommend you try it before the wedding. Most couples come to Copenhagen just for a couple of days to get married and they don't have time to do a trial, but if you have - just do it.
Explain in detail what you would like to look like, preferably sharing the pictures of both the hair and makeup you like. If you got a new product etc. foundation and want to use it for the wedding, necessarily test it for a couple of days before the wedding.
How much time would you recommend allocating for wedding makeup?
For bridal makeup only, I always give myself 1 h. Makeup and hair usually take 2 hours, but I allocate 2.5 hours just in case to have extra time, so I don't feel rushed and a couple knows that we have enough time.
But the more people I have, the faster I should work. Sometimes if I should do makeup and hair for 4 people, I can do it in 1.5 hours per person.
Anastasia only uses professional and luxe brands like Shiseido, Laura Mercier, M.A.C, Estée Lauder, Benefit, Fenty Beauty, Nars, Lancôme.
Booking a wedding make-up artist in Copenhagen
How early the couple should book a makeup artist?
The earlier, the better :) Especially for the summer season since weddings in the Nordics are more seasonal. Personally, there could be cases that someone can book me 3 months in advance and I already have no place, and someone just in a week - and there will be a place.
Would you be willing to share what are the ongoing wedding make up rates in Copenhagen?
When it comes to prices, there are so many variables — the number of people, the distance, whether it's only bridal makeup or plus hair, etc. I have a couple of variations of bridal packages and it starts from 160€ (~1200 DKK) up to 590€ (~4500 DKK). I use only professional and luxe brands like Shiseido, Laura Mercier, M.A.C, Estée Lauder, Benefit, Fenty Beauty, Nars, Lancôme, etc.
Copenhagen Makeup Artist Anastasiia’s (makeupbeautycph) Top 4 Tips:
1. Don't be afraid to do your regular skincare routine, this is the best what you can do to make your makeup look better and stay longer. Also, the night before you can do some moisturizing/nourishing face masks. But do not put on any face mask without testing it first.
2. Wash your hair the night before nicely done. The more your hair is fresh and clean, the better your hairstyle will look.
3. Always have your own lipstick with you, and you can easily touch up your makeup later.
4. Any facial waxing should be done at least 1 week before the wedding. This can cause problems with makeup application if done recently.
