Celebrating wedding in King’s Garden: Maria + Rakan’s Story

Maria and Rakan's open-air wedding in Kongens Have took place in August, one of the most popular months in Copenhagen to get married. It was a gloomy afternoon, with showers in the forecast - the most “terrifying” aspect of planning a wedding in Copenhagen.

As the couple traveled from Germany for their special day, all our communication leading up to the event was virtual. So, when I finally met them in person, I was truly struck by their appearance. Maria's dress was a true masterpiece, adorned with exquisite embroidery that added an elegant touch to her ensemble. Meanwhile, Rakan looked dashing in his light blue suit, a perfect match for his striking blue eyes. Together, they exuded a sense of simplicity and refinement that perfectly suited the occasion.

The day commenced with candid shots of the entire group gathering and making their way to the intimate ceremony spot nestled within King’s Garden. Despite a few raindrops, the atmosphere was filled with electric excitement as M + R exchanged heartfelt vows, surrounded by love and joy.

After the ceremony, the celebration continued with a delightful champagne toast and group and couple shots. It was heartening to witness the couple's joy and to be able to capture those cherished moments for them to relive for a lifetime. To add a touch of whimsy and spontaneity, we incorporated soap bubbles and fun props into the photos, resulting in candid shots.

As a Copenhagen wedding professional, I must say that open-air weddings organised by Copenhagen City Hall hold a special place in my heart. The picturesque setting allows more people to join in on the celebration, making the day even more memorable and inclusive. And with the enchanting garden as the backdrop, there was no need to search for an additional outdoor location — the beauty of nature was right there, effortlessly enhancing the love story unfolding before the lens.
