Planning a Danish island elopement and considering an Ærø elopement? Stephany and Ian travelled from Ireland to celebrate their wedding on this quiet Danish island, choosing it for its calm atmosphere and simple, intimate feel.
Their day started in Marstal, where I joined them for the final moments of getting ready. There is always something special about that part of the day, when everything still feels calm and a little unreal. From there, we made our way to Ærøskøbing City Hall for the ceremony. It was short, personal, and exactly what they wanted, followed by a small toast offered by the officiant.
One of the things that makes a Danish island elopement on Ærø so appealing is how easy the day flows. Nothing feels rushed, and everything is close by. After the ceremony, we simply stepped back out into the town and continued the experience rather than moving on to something completely different.
Ærø Elopement Experience and Photo Locations
After the ceremony, we headed towards the island’s well-known colourful beach huts. They are one of those spots that always work, especially when a couple brings their own style into it, as Stephany and Ian did. Their look felt relaxed but considered, which fit perfectly with the setting.
Even though it was a summer weekend, Ærø was surprisingly quiet. That is one of the advantages of choosing an aero elopement. You can walk through the cobbled streets, stop where you like, and take your time without feeling surrounded by crowds. We explored different corners of Ærøskøbing, finding small backdrops along the way rather than sticking to a fixed plan.
We ended the day with a stop at a local ice cream shop, which felt like the right kind of finish. Nothing formal, just a simple moment to take it all in after everything had happened.
