    Aarhus City Hall Wedding

When Gaby and Andrew reached out about photographing their Aarhus wedding, it was literally a few days before their ceremony. Woohoo, I was available! From our first conversation, I had a really good feeling about them. They weren't after the traditional posed-and-polished approach—they wanted something different: analogue wedding photography.

If you've never shot on film, here's the thing: you genuinely don't know what you'll get until the rolls come back from the lab. Light leaks, unexpected grain, colours that render in ways digital can't quite replicate. As I like to say, have very low expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised every time. That's genuinely part of the fun.

    Aarhus Wedding Day

Gaby and Andrew both studied at the university here and wanted to celebrate where their story actually began, rather than back in their home country. They brought a small group of university friends along, turning the day into an intimate reunion as much as a wedding.

The ceremony lasted exactly 3 minutes. We walked straight out of the ceremony room where everyone toasted with beers, then Gaby and Andrew headed off with me for a photowalk while their friends went ahead to meet us later.

We wandered through Møllestien first—those gorgeous cobblestone streets lined with colorful historic houses that look like something out of a storybook. Then down to the harbor area, stopping whenever something caught our eye. No rush, no rigid timeline, just two people enjoying their city. Eventually we all regrouped at their favorite Shawarma place for what might be the most casual wedding lunch I've ever documented. Absolutely loved the vibe!

This photo story below features only the film images from our time together. I brought my digital camera as backup, but these analogue shots capture something raw and honest that feels right for their day.

Planning Your Aarhus City Hall Wedding

If you're considering getting married at Aarhus City Hall, the ceremony itself is quick and straightforward—which honestly is perfect. You're not there for pageantry, you're there to make it official and then get on with celebrating.

The real advantage? The City Hall sits right in the centre so you're walking distance from some genuinely beautiful spots. Møllestien's colorful houses are an obvious choice for photos. The harbour has that modern Scandinavian feel. The Latin Quarter's narrow streets offer cozy corners and interesting architecture. And if you need to warm up (or cool down, depending on the season), there are plenty of cafes to duck into.

Other place worth checking out? The Aarhus Botanical Gardens are worth the short trip if you're after greenery and a quieter atmosphere. Or head to ARoS—the famous rainbow panorama museum that's become one of Aarhus's most recognisable landmarks. The rooftop walkway makes for striking photos if bold colours are your thing.

What I appreciate about Aarhus compared to Copenhagen: fewer tourists, more breathing room, and it feels genuinely Danish rather than Instagram-famous. Whether you have history here like Gaby and Andrew, or you're simply drawn to the mix of old and new architecture, it's an excellent choice for intimate celebrations.
