Ærø Town Hall Wedding in Denmark
A personal story of Kaiyu and Stefan, a German couple who chose Ærø as their wedding destination: how their wedding day looked from my, as their photographer, perspective.
***
Planning an Ærø town hall wedding in Denmark? Kaiyu and Stefan’s day in Ærøskøbing is a lovely example of how personal and relaxed a wedding on the island can feel, and I genuinely enjoyed every moment of photographing it.
They travelled from Germany and chose autumn for their wedding, when Ærø is quieter and more intimate. We met the day before at one of the few cafés still open for the season, which gave us time to talk through their plans and get to know each other properly. That time made a real difference. By the wedding day, it already felt easy and familiar, like I was there as more than just their photographer.
Their plan was simple. A small ceremony at the town hall with their closest family, keeping everything meaningful and unforced. Ærøskøbing Town Hall fits that approach perfectly. It is modest, warm, and full of character without feeling formal or overwhelming.
The morning started at their Airbnb, where I photographed the getting-ready moments. Kaiyu stepping into her dress was one of those quiet highlights, emotional in a very real way. Those moments always set the tone for the rest of the day.
We then walked together through Ærøskøbing to the town hall. The ceremony itself was short, but full of feeling. Kaiyu’s family joined online while Stefan’s family was there in person, which is something many couples choose for an Ærø town hall wedding in Denmark. After the vows, they followed a German tradition and cut out a heart shape together, marking their first task as a married couple.
Ærøskøbing Elopement
The weather kept us moving, so instead of staying in one place, we explored different parts of the island. That is one of the things I like most about an Ærøskøbing elopement. The ceremony is only one part of the experience, and the rest of the day naturally turns into a photo walk through the island.
We visited the colourful beach huts, wandered through the small streets of Ærøskøbing, stopped by a local gallery, and spent time at Stefan’s family’s hotel. Each location added something different without needing a strict plan. The island itself does most of the work.
If you are considering an Ærø town hall wedding in Denmark, this is exactly what makes it special. You get a simple, meaningful ceremony and the freedom to shape the rest of the day in your own way.
