Maternity lifestyle sessions hold a special place in my heart as a photographer. Not only do they offer endless opportunities to capture the natural beauty of pregnancy, but the process of planning and executing a shoot also allows me to build a deeper connection with my clients. For me, communication and collaboration are key to creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everybody involved.

Kaila, fashion blogger from Swanky & Bold (check her website!), reached me out with clear vision for her baby bump session — she wanted to capture the beauty of her pregnancy in a way that felt cozy, familiar, and authentic to her and her husband's lifestyle. Yet with a touch of creative. I immediately knew — the upcoming session is going to be inspiring.

As we delved deeper into her vision, we decided to shoot at her parent's spacious apartment next to the canals, as it perfectly embodied the homie and hygge vibe that Kaila was after. We created a moodboard that showcased warm and natural lighting, comfortable and relaxed poses, and stylish wardrobe choices. While some photographers prefer to avoid using visual references, I find that a moodboard can be incredibly helpful in ensuring that we are all on the same page and working towards a shared vision. At the end of the day, it might be one and the only maternity session in your life, so why not to fullfill your deepest desires? We decided to feature three different outfits for three different scenes.

Throughout the 1.5-hour shoot, we took breaks as needed to ensure that Kaila and her husband felt comfortable and relaxed. I believe that taking one's time during a shoot is essential to capturing genuine, natural moments that truly reflect the beauty of the pregnancy.
